The
Chessmen

Guitarist Willie Halpin, drummer Terry Brady and pianist Terry Byrne were schoolmates at Synge Street School, Dublin in the early ‘60s, and their mutual interest in music led them to forming a group. Soon they were joined by organist Alan Donaldson (Dee) and bassist Robert Ballagh and this five-piece became the core of The Chessmen.
