The
Swingtime Aces |
The Swingtime Aces
were one of the very few showbands who made a name for themselves in the
‘60s without the help of a hit record. Formed in the late ‘50s by bassist
Jim Ruane and saxophonist Seán Glynn, who at the time was a teacher in
Barnadearg, near Tuam, the Swingtime Aces went on to headline in the first
series of “The Showband Show” on RTE television, travel on two successful
tours of the U.S.A. and Canada and on numerous tours of Britain. In the
late ‘60s they sponsored their own Monday night radio programme on RTE.
