| Throughout the 1960s,
Spotlight magazine brought to
young Irish people all the latest news about their favourite showbands
and pop stars. Beginning as a tabloid paper similar to Melody Maker and
New Musical Express, its format changed a number of times, finally
becoming an A4 size weekly magazine. Along the way it had added the word
"New" to its title and merged with a rival magazine, Top
Ten. Hitsville magazine covered the Dublin beat scene in
the late 1960s. Many thanks to David Gaffney, John Murphy, Jimmy Reilly, Eddie Kelly,
Joe Dodd and Tadhg Curtis who allowed me to add some
scans from their collections for these
pages. |
