Irish Showbands and Beat-Groups Rare Instruments (4) |
A feature of Irish '60s bands was their quality instruments. There was no shortage of Fender and Gibson guitars, Selmer saxes and Ludwig drum-kits. On these pages we share vintage photos of musicians with their instruments. Some we know, some we don't. If you can identify some of the musicians and/or their instruments, please let us know. |

This has to be one of the rarest instruments I've come across. It looks like a Rickenbacker but it's not. Could this be a very young Paul Brady with The Sonnets? |
...... |
Brendan O'Brien of The Dixies with his single-cutaway archtop Gibson (c.1965) |
....... |
Isn't it slightly ironic that the lead guitarist in The Fendermen played.....a Gibson! (thanks to Seán Reynolds) |

This guitarist with The Signets has a rare Fender Mustang guitar. Though the Mustang bass was relatively common, the guitar was not. (thanks to Mike Niblett) |
Can anyone identify this bass used by a member of The Slick Six from Cloughjordan, County Tipperary? |

Looks like a Gibson but it isn't. It's a Hagstrom (Swedish) owned by The Slick Six guitarist? |
